The many problems that can result from leaving your wisdom teeth as is include:

  • Decay in the surrounding teeth
  • Moving teeth out of alignment, resulting in crowding or a crooked bite
  • Gum disease caused by crowding
  • Difficult to clean due to the location at the back of your mouth
  • Infection and pain
  • Swelling, bleeding gums

What to Expect With Wisdom Teeth Removal

When your wisdom teeth are removed, you’ll remain comfortable under local anaesthetic. The entire area is numbed to minimise your discomfort. We also have general anaesthetic available if you prefer.

We’ll only start once you agree that you are prepared to move forward. If you feel anxious, we can prescribe a medication to ease you into the procedure. You should plan to take some time off from your regular activities for a few days and eat soft foods for about a week.

If you experience any pain in the following days, we recommend that you apply a cold compress to the outside of the cheek around the extraction site. You can also take over-the-counter pain medications as needed.
